 The Hills Have Eyes, although a remake of the original, was everything a horror movie should be. Typically, I'm not a fan of slasher flicks, but this movie had elements I like to see in a movie. I don't like to see the protagonists making stupid mistakes (the old "curiosity killed the cat" syndrome), I don't like being able to guess the villain 20 minutes into the movie (although this wasn't the scenario in this particular movie). I don't enjoy picking out who's going to do die first, and being correct. I don't think sex scenes have any place in horror movies. I like things to be important and advance the plot.
Although the movie had some "MTV" elements to it, it still adhered to the classic horror movie thrills. The thing I liked about this movie was the fact that they repeatedly "crossed the line", doing things that you wouldn't expect modern movies to do, nothing is off limits in this movie. Horrifying elements that made you, well, terrified. Lots of "boo" surprises, but also more complex and twisted than modern movies have allowed. I spent most of the movie with my mouth agape... It's not just the gore, although there is a lot of that. They didn't leave anything to the imagination, did not imply anything...they showed you everything.

 Mission: Impossible III starts out promising a great premise for the series: a deeper story with a realistic grounding. There was the first Mission: Impossible, which had a cool and slick facade, but left many feeling confused, even betrayed at the movie's treatment of Jim Phelps. Then along came John Woo's version, which stated that it would have a simpler plot with better action scenes, but the plot was so simple to the point of being non-existent. Now, TV wonderment J.J. Abrams (Alias & Lost) promised a healthy synergy of the slickness of the first part with the intensity of the second. Of which, we get both, but the MI:3's pace is so rigid in juggling these two premises that the movie seems to play out like a long television episode.
Not to say that a long episode would be a bad thing, as Mr. Abrams has created two of the best shows on TV right now, but the problem lies with the dialog and the delivery. In one moment, Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) and his new fianc? (Michelle Monaghan) are on a rooftop as Ethan is trying explain to her that he is going somewhere, but can't explain where he is going. The actors speak so quietly for so long that the emotion of the moment is almost lost. There are moments where Mr. Abrams' style of dialog does come out, but one must wonder if the other two writers actually hindered his dialog.

The Happy Tree Friends are cute, cuddly animals whose daily adventures always end up going horribly wrong.
Following a mysterious absence of several years, the Man of Steel comes back to Earth in the epic action-adventure, Superman Returns, a soaring new chapter in the saga of one of the world?s most beloved superheroes. While an old enemy plots to render him powerless once and for all, Superman faces the heartbreaking realization that the woman he loves, Lois Lane, has moved on with her life. Or has she? Superman?s bittersweet return challenges him to bridge the distance between them while finding a place in a society that has learned to survive without him. In an attempt to protect the world he loves from cataclysmic destruction, Superman embarks on an epic journey of redemption that takes him from the depths of the ocean to the far reaches of outer space.
I was able to see an advance showing of this movie with a mostly college-age audience and everyone was laughing throughout the movie. It was excellent. As my friend to the left said, sometimes the movie was over the top as well as over the hedge, but those times were some of the most hilarious. Action sequences early in the movie that had people roaring with laughter were topped by ones later on and small tidbits of comedy were spread throughout. Add to that the typical messages about family, friends, and doing-right and you have the formula for a great family comedy. The voice acting was solid; a really fine ensemble cast. I don't buy many animated movies, but I may have to pick this one up.
Although America's love affair with the auto is currently threatening the country's economic and environmental stability, the creators of Toy Story take us to an imaginative world in which there are no humans to upset balances, just cars grooving to the sounds of competition, love, and family values.
As a parent, I found this movie an enjoyable way to spend time with my 9-year-old daughter and her friend. Here are her comments: "I thought that Aquamarine was a great movie! I could really compare it to the Little Mermaid. You know, the parts where she had to leave before sunset. I thought that the cast did a really great job acting. I really liked the end, too." Back to mom's thoughts: All in all, the friendship theme is very positive. Also, the "love" theme is appropriate for young viewers, in my opinion, because it was somewhat idealized but not over the top unimaginable. The feeling in general was of a pleasant escape where friendship is reaffirmed.
It was ? as I expected - absolutely pants! I was hoping the film would humanise the characters a bit more because they were completely unbelievable in the book, but alas not! Hanks and Tattoue were so one dimensional and completely forgettable ? no substance to their characters at all. Not surprising because their dialogue was them just explaining stuff! Ian McKellen however was brilliant! He camped it up big time! And I'm sorry but I thought Paul Bettany was good despite his bad reviews! I tell you what it reminded me of ? you remember those educational videos we used to watch at school? We'll it was like one of those ? but with good actors! Ron Howard did OK with the cinematography ? and visualised the long-winded explanations really well, but it didn't distract from the fact that it was a boring and highly pretentious film! Final comment; don't blo*dy bother ? go see X-Men 3 instead!
When a rogue wave capsizes a luxury cruise ship in the middle of the North Atlantic Ocean, a small group of survivors find themselves unlikely allies in a battle for their lives. Preferring to test the odds alone, career gambler John Dylan (Josh Lucas) ignores captain?s orders (Andre Braugher) to wait below for possible rescue and sets out to find his own way to safety. What begins as a solo mission soon draws others as Dylan is followed by a desperate father (Kurt Russell) searching for his daughter (Emmy Rossum) and her fianc? (Mike Vogel), a young couple who hours before couldn?t summon the courage to tell him they were engaged and now face much graver challenges. Along the way they are joined by a single mother (Jacinda Barrett) and her wise-beyond-his-years son (Jimmy Bennett), an anxious stowaway (Mia Maestro) and a despondent fellow passenger (Richard Dreyfuss) who boarded the ship not sure he wanted to live but now knows he doesn?t want to die.
This film fails miserably in evoking the emotions and fears of the original and the fault for this lies everywhere, in nearly every frame of the film...and squarely on the shoulders of an inept director who, it seems, has never watched a horror film in his life.
